The Anne Samson Jerusalem Journey
Day 11 and 12: Shabbat, Tzipori, kfar kedem

Dear NCSY TJJ Bus 4 Family,

We hope your Shabbat was as great as ours!
We celebrated shabbat this past week in beautiful Shlomi where we enjoyed Kabbalat Shabbat and several educational sessions with the Advisors; topics included “the challenge of time” and “what the hell?? A Jewish perspective.” We also enjoyed an uplifting “Ebbing” where we sang together as shabbat slowly faded away. TJJ Bus 8, who joined us in Shlomi for Shabbat, led a powerful havdalah. Following Shabbat we had a bus wide basketball game of knockout!! (I won 2/3 games!!!)

This morning, Sunday, we packed our bags and bid Shlomi farewell as we began to move south once again. On our way to our new base camp in Yad Binyamin, we made stops in Tzipori and Kfar Kedem. In Tzipori we explored many of the beautiful mosaics as well as ancient water basins. It was a terrific window into the archeological significance of the Israel as well as what life must have been like in post second temple Israel.

In Kfar Kedem we had a hands on opportunity to feel what life was like in the Galilee two thousand years ago, we made pita, had a delicious ethnic lunch and even got to dress up and ride donkeys!! We concluded our day in our new hotel in the gorgeous Yad Binyamin. We had an excellent session of “drawing a Jew” and played and awesome game of “See, Run, Build.”

Make sure to remember that the free weekend is rapidly approaching and every TJJer should confirm their plans and make sure that all arrangements are in order!

Best,
Rabbi Chaim
