TJJer Spotlight: Rachel Peysakhova- Day 11

The day at the Dead Sea

Today was an amazing day! We started off early in the morning at Mesada. After eating a delicious breakfast of some kind of cheese sandwich, we started our “hike” (an assortment of stairs) to the very top of the glorious mountain. Along with its historical significance of King Herod and the braveness of the Jews, Masada captivated us with its amazing view as well. At the top, we learned about Herod’s fort and home and were able to view pieces of it too.
Being a history geek, I found that pretty cool. I know all of us did.
When we were done exploring, we made our descent from the mountain on a cable car with a few IDF soldiers — so cool!!
After this, we went to the Dead Sea! It was beautiful. The water was clear and full of salt. The girls and I were so amused by the fact that the water held us up and we were able to float around as if we were wearing a life jacket.
As beautiful as it was, the salt hurt like heck. Since most of our bus is pretty clumsy, a lot of us were coming into the pure bath of salt with multiple cuts and wounds from previous hikes…so as expected, the beginning of the hike was filled with complaints. But PDP (public display of positivity), we all got over it and we’re distracted by the amazing view and fun of it.
After this, we got to cool off in a water hike where we swam in a little water fall/river. We were all laying down in the water and just enjoying the cool river after the warm Dead Sea.
At the end of the day, we got ready for Shabbat. It was a really great day.
