TJJer Spotlight- Day 10!

TJJer Spotlight: Emily Schultz

Hi I’m Emily Schultz and I’m from Cleveland, Ohio. Today we went to the holy city Tzfat, this is by far my favorite place in Israel. We began by going to a cemetery where Ar”i z”l is buried. He was a scholar and a Kabbalistic rabbi during the time of the Spanish Inquisition. After, we headed upward to a overlook in Tzfat and sang songs. Daniel explained the meaning of the song Lecha Dodi and how it connects with Kabbalat Shabbat. The meaning of the song is to welcome the Queen of Shabbat. Then, we got to tour the city and go shopping. I noticed that most things in Tzfat are blue. This is because the Torah commands the Jews to put a strand of blue thread in the tallit. The color is then supposed to redirect our mind to think and pray towards God. I am grateful that I am able to experience a trip of a lifetime. I hope I will be able to find myself and have inspiration to change the world. Have a great Shabbos.
